Women in International Law Vol. 4

The annual ‘Women in International Law’ symposium hosts blog posts, interviews, and/or podcasts on topics relating to women’s rights, feminist approaches to international law, and the struggles of women in international legal academia. This year, the symposium will focus on current developments affecting women in conflict zones and beyond. Discussions will explore critical issues such as advancing gender justice through a treaty for international humanitarian law, the erosion of gender justice in the ICC’s jurisprudence, and the evolving legal discourse on gender apartheid as an international crime. We will also examine the intersection of gender and climate justice, questioning the neutrality of legal frameworks and their implications for intergenerational equity. Further, we will explore the role of feminist perspectives in international economic law, and the complexities of safety, privacy, and inclusion in gender self-determination policies. A special podcast episode with Vitsche will delve into the often-overlooked roles of women in conflicts, the intersection of feminist activism and resistance, and the challenges of international feminist solidarity. We will also discuss grassroots activism’s role in shaping international law, alternative approaches to justice, and the impact of political shifts on women in and fleeing from conflict zones. Through these discussions, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of gendered dynamics in global crises and explore pathways toward greater justice and inclusion.
