Rewarding in International Law

This Symposiums aims to engage with the work of Anne van Aaken (University of Hamburg) and Betül Simsek (University of Hamburg) in their recently published article ‘Rewarding in International Law’. The article focuses on rewards as an effective incentive for States to comply with international law and suggests that more use be made of this tool.

The Symposium is co-hosted by Justine Batura (Völkerrechtsblog), Christian Pogies (Völkerrechtsblog) and Veronika Fikfak  (University of Copenhagen), who features as guest editor for this project. The co-editors introduce the Symposium by giving a brief introduction to the article discussed as well as by outlining the main claims of each contribution (here). The Symposium concludes with a recorded video conversation between Veronika Fikfak, Anne van Aaken and Betül Simsek, interacting with the contributions of the Symposium and talking about their very own take on Rewarding in International Law (here).

Acknowledgement: This Symposium is co-organised by Veronika Fikfak, whose contribution to this Symposium forms part of the Human Rights Nudge project that has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Grant agreement No. 803891).
