Nuremberg Form 2026

The International Nuremberg Principles Academy invites you to attend the Nuremberg Form2026, held from 7 to 9 October 2026 at Courtroom 600 of the Nuremberg Palace of Justice, the historic venue of the Nuremberg trials.

Titled “A Critical Alliance: The UN Charter and theNuremberg Principles – Peace and Security in a Fragmented World”, this international, interdisciplinary conference will reflect on the historical evolution of the foundations of international law, and the continued efforts it takes to up hold their relevance.

Eight decades after the judgment of the International Military Tribunal and the establishment of the United Nations (UN), their spirit and letter are under grave threat. This reality is particularly amplified by repeated violations of the Charter´s prohibition on the use of force as witnessed in various regions of the world. The gradual erosion of these fundamental norms has led to the highest number of conflicts recorded since the UN´s foundation and the significant proliferation of international crimes.

Apart from exacerbating the failure of the preventive function envisagedin the Charter, these harrowing circumstances are calling into question the effectiveness and sustainability of the international legal order that was developed following the horrors of WorldWar II. In relation to the UN Charter´s stated objective to “save succeeding generations from the scourge of war,“ the Nuremberg Forum 2026 will assess the best approaches to strengthen institutional and normative frameworks designed to prevent the unlawful use or threat of force. It will further analyse how the international criminal justice system can adapt to enforce these norms in an era characterised by fragmentation, multipolarity, democratic back sliding as well as hybrid and asymmetrical warfare.

The Nuremberg Forum provides a unique opportunity to engage in critical discussions with leading international scholars, practitioners, policy makers and members of civil society on topical issues most pertinent to furthering accountability for international crimes. This year’s panellists include the Special Adviser of the United Nations Secretary-General for the Preventionof Genocide, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on truth, justice and reparation, the Secretary General of Amnesty International, senior diplomats as well as members of prominent international human rights organisations.
