Following concerns raised regarding possible plagiarism in “ Subsidiary Protection and Climate Refugees: A Cure-All or a Limited Remedy?” by Kabir Kumar published on 2 February 2026, Völkerrechtsblog conducted a review of the publication and contacted the author for an explanation.
The review found that parts of the article reproduce or closely follow previously published material without adequate attribution. In particular the publication “Subsidiary Protection: Is It the Silver Bullet to Addressing the Plight of Climate Refugees?” by Greta Berardi published on the Groningen Journal of International Law blog on 23 September 2025 was concerned.
Because these findings concern the originality of the published work and reflected conduct incompatible with Völkerrechtsblog’s standards of good academic practice, the Editors-in-Chief have decided to retract the article in coordination with the peer reviewer involved in the double-blind review process.
The author agrees with the retraction and was informed of the decision.
The purpose of this notice is to correct the scholarly record and to ensure transparency regarding the status of the publication.
Greta Berardi’s contribution will be re-published on Völkerrechtsblog in the upcoming week.
