Land Grabbing, Human Rights and Multinational Corporations – Treating Human Rights Differently
Völkerrechtliche Tagesthemen: Spotlight (Episode 40)
This episode of the Völkerrechtliche Tagesthemen examines the parallel developments of the United Nations Draft Resolution on Business and Human Rights and the African Commission on People’s and Human Rights Draft Resolution Business and Human Rights Treaties. Focusing on the argumentation that it is now time to accept the paradigm from the conventional state-centered duty to respect, protect and fulfil human rights and that it is needed to include multinational corporations as role players of governance and active drivers of land-grabbing in Africa.
Although these instruments are non-binding they provide a much-needed platform for treating human rights differently. They are aiming to achieve this by holding multinational corporations accountable for human rights violations.
