Call for Papers: Women in International Law Vol. 4

20.12.2024

Völkerrechtsblog welcomes blog post proposals for its upcoming symposium ‘Women in International Law Vol. 4’. The ‘Women in International Law’ symposium is an online symposium held annually (in March) and hosts blog posts, interviews, and/or podcasts on topics relating to women’s rights, feminist approaches to international law, and the struggles of women in international legal academia. For an overview of the symposium, as held in the previous years, see here and here. Contributions to these past versions of the symposium were included in the list of the blog’s most-read articles in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

This year, the symposium will focus on current developments affecting women in conflict zones and beyond. Such current developments include (but are not limited to) the Israel-Palestine Conflict, Iran after the March 2024 elections, and Afghanistan under the current Taliban regime. Further submissions can discuss the recent United Nations re-commitment to ending violence against women, with the 25th Anniversary of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Contributions on more critical or contemporary international law-related topics in the theme of the symposium are also welcome. Such topics may include the impact of climate change on equality and the human rights protection of women, legal gaps in the protection from discrimination and gender-based violence in the digital sphere, intimate partner violence and asylum claims’ assessments, alternative approaches to international law (e.g. FAIL, TWAIL, SWAIL), etc.

If you are interested in contributing to the symposium, please send your contribution of up to 1.500 words (in English and in line with our guidelines for authors) to katsoni@voelkerrechtsblog.org (please mention ‘Call for Papers – WiL Symposium’ in the subject line). Submissions should also mention the affiliation of the authors.

Deadline for papers: 3rd February 2025

Symposium: Monday, 3rd March 2025 – Friday, 7th March 2025
