Forced Migration in a Changing Technological Landscape
03.-04.11.2025
8:30 -16:00 o'clock
Starting at 08:30 on 3 November and 09:15 on 4 November.
This two-day conference will explore the evolving dynamics of forced
migration and digital technologies. As digital innovations increasingly
shape global systems, the conference will investigate how these advances
are transforming the experiences of displaced populations and the
frameworks that govern their movement and protection. Researchers from
law and social sciences will engage in critical discussions and share
reflections on the challenges and opportunities that technology presents
for forced migrants, policymakers, and humanitarian actors.
The conference will focus on the following four key themes:
Day 1 – 3rd of November:
– Digital Platforms and Diaspora Humanitarianism: Empowering diaspora
communities through digital tools.
– Digital Vulnerabilities of Forced Migrants: Surveillance and data
privacy in the digital age.
Day 2 – 4th of November:
– Algorithmic Governance in Asylum Processes: The role of artificial
intelligence and big data in asylum decision-making.
– Border Externalization and New Technologies: The use of emerging
technologies such as drones and facial recognition in border management.
Renowned scholars will present their research and contribute to an
interdisciplinary dialogue.
We warmly invite all those interested to participate and mark the dates
in their calendars.
