REVA Academy on International Space Law

11.-19.04.2026
April 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19, 2026

The Academy on International Space Law, titled “Outer Space as a Strategic Domain: Contemporary Legal Challenges,” is an academic initiative organised by the Centre for International Law and Policy, School of Legal Studies, REVA University.

As outer space evolves from a domain of scientific exploration to one shaped by geopolitical, technological and economic interests, important legal and regulatory challenges have emerged. The Academy brings together leading scholars, practitioners and policy experts to engage with these challenges in space governance and foster informed dialogue on the future of international space law.

About the School of Legal Studies, REVA University
The School of Legal Studies (SoLS), REVA University is a leading centre for legal education committed to academic excellence, professional competence and socially responsible legal practice. The School is ranked 46th nationally by India Today (2025) and 18th nationally and 4th in Karnataka by IIRF, reflecting its growing academic reputation. Guided by the “Educate to Enterprise” philosophy, SoLS bridges traditional legal scholarship with contemporary legal practice. Through conferences, seminars, specialised programmes and international collaborations, including a partnership with the University of Staffordshire, the School promotes interdisciplinary engagement in emerging areas such
as technology, artificial intelligence, aviation and space law.

Significance of the Course
The growing centrality of outer space to global security and technological advancement has made it one of the most strategically significant domains of the 21st century. Modern societies increasingly rely on space-based systems for communication, navigation, surveillance, and defence, while the rise of private space enterprises and advanced technologies has exposed important gaps in the existing international legal framework.

The programme provides a timely academic platform to examine evolving legal questions surrounding the militarisation of space, commercialisation, space resource utilisation, and environmental sustainability. It offers students, researchers, and professionals an
opportunity to engage critically with emerging debates in international space law and contemporary space governance.
