One Traineeship Position as Research and Project Assistant

The Odysseus Academic Network is seeking to recruit one young graduate or professional with a legal background to fill a remunerated traineeship position as Research and Project Assistant. The position will be based in Brussels at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and is remunerated with a salary of around 977,50 € per month in the framework of a Convention d’immersion professionnelle (CIP) under Belgian Law.

The traineeship will start on 5 September 2024 and last for 6 months with a possible extension of other 6 months maximum. The trainee will work as part of a team of three to four persons.

The Research and Project Assistant’s role involve the following tasks:

  • Coordinating the Odysseus Network blog: managing, reading and editing weekly posts, including liaison with contributors and publishing content online;
  • Updating the content of the pages of the Odysseus website;
  • Managing the Network’s social media accounts, in particular Facebook and Twitter;
  • Drafting and disseminating communication material for the activities of the Odysseus Network;
  • Any other task related to the activities of the Odysseus Network;

Applicants should possess the following qualifications:

  • Master degree in (EU) law with excellent marks (other disciplines such as political science, international relations, European studies will be considered but priority will be given to law graduates);
  • Some knowledge of EU law and policies on Immigration and Asylum;
  • Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English. Proficiency in French is an asset;
  • Knowledge of ICT is an asset: capacity to maintain a website ( WordPress & Elementor) and social media accounts;
  • Ability to learn how e-training programs function, in particular Teams;
  • Ability with programs for content creation (Canva, Photoshop)
  • Ability to be proactive, plan and work autonomously;
  • Ability to communicate clearly, easily and quickly in writing

What does the Odysseus Network offer during a traineeship?

  • A first valuable professional experience during which you will accomplish diverse tasks with a certain autonomy under weekly supervision in a multi-national team and network;
  • Monitoring of daily developments in EU migration and asylum law and policy regarding legislation, case law, …
  • To follow for free as a full participant the Odysseus Summer School from 1 to 12 July 2024;
  • Learn how to update and maintain a website;
  • If time permits, writing a blog post for publication on the Odysseus blog will be supported;
  • Live and work in the capital of Europe while benefiting from all facilities offered by the ULB (libraries, restaurants, sport, medical, etc).
