International Summer School “Human Rights in Theory and Practice”

25.-29.08.2025

The 4th International Summer School “Human Rights in Theory and Practice” will take place on 25-29 August 2025 in Dresden, Germany, and online.

If you are interested in participating in the Summer School, please complete this application form by 30 June 2025.

More information is available on our website.

Under the theme “Navigating Change – Contemporary Perspectives on Human Rights”, this year’s
Summer School will explore how current global challenges affect the human rights system. In a rapidly changing world, developments such as the accelerating effects of climate change, emerging public health threats despite medical improvement or the unwarranted use of artificial intelligence pose unprecedented threats. These challenges could not have been foreseen when the International Bill of Human Rights was drafted, resulting in a conflict between evolving societal needs and the existing normative framework.

Over the course of five days, we have prepared a broad program for you, ranging from inspiring and interactive lectures by renowned speakers to modern formats such as coffee talks and interdisciplinary panel discussions. This will be complemented by a variety of evening activities and an interactive final format in which the newly acquired knowledge can be applied in a hands-on conference. There is also the opportunity to earn university credits by completing a final exam (5 ECTS for on-site participants and 3 ECTS for online participants).

We are honored to announce the participation of renowned speakers such as Prof. Dr. Geir Ulfstein (University of Oslo), Prof. Dr. Veronika Bílková (Charles University, Member of the Venice Commission), Prof. Dr. Ian Fry (former UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights in the context of climate change) and many more.

If you are interested in participating in the 2025 “Human Rights in Theory and Practice” Summer School, please complete this application form. The deadline is 30 June 2025. Please note that the number of places is limited, and we recommend applying early.

On-site participants pay a participation fee of €200. The online-only participation costs €50. More information is available on our website.
