Global Citizenship Education Hub ZAF Hamburg 2024 (Deadline: 11.10.24)
Call for Participation
December 4 and 5, 2024 in Hamburg
Global perspectives in the educational discourse
The global perspective is of central importance for the success of a socio-ecological
transformation in the 21st century. An understanding of global connections and a critical view
of contributions to causation and responsibility are therefore becoming increasingly important
in educational discourse. In cooperation with the Hamburg Sustainability Conference, the
Zentrum für Aus- und Fortbildung Hamburg would like to make a contribution to this
educational discourse and is organizing the Global Citizenship Education Hub ZAF Hamburg
for the first time.
Interdisciplinary exchange
The hub will focus on the topic of law and the rule of law in global citizenship education from
an interdisciplinary perspective. The hub is aimed at educational scientists and legal scholars
on the one hand, but also at scientists from the fields of sociology, human geography or cultural
studies, for example, insofar as they conduct research in the context of socio-ecological
transformation. The question of how the local and the global are linked when global citizenship
education programs address law and the rule of law will be explored from various perspectives.
Two panels are planned for this purpose.
Panel 1: Climate protection as a human right
Possible topics for contributions from an interdisciplinary perspective in Panel 1:
- Understanding climate protection as a human right
- Climate justice
- Postcolonial perspectives on (comparative) constitutional law
- Contingency of legal systems
- Epistemic communities of (climate) law
- Perception of law as local or global by those affected by the law
Panel 2: Mobilization of (climate) law
Possible topics for contributions from an interdisciplinary perspective in Panel 2:
- Intentions and (mis)successes of climate lawsuits
- Processes of self-mobilization and empowerment
- Importance of local dispute cultures for global problem-solving
- Global leverage through local legal disputes
- Politicizing effects of climate jurisdiction on transformation processes
- Mobilization of (climate) law in the case of unstable (legal) statehood
Scientific and participatory
A special feature of the hub is that it combines elements of a scientific conference with the
concrete implementation of educational offers for learners. In line with the widespread
understanding of sustainable education as a search, learning and design process, the Hub
brings together learners, teachers, scientists and civil society actors.
The Hub initially serves the interdisciplinary exchange of scientists in the two panels on the
educational topic of Global Citizenship Education. However, the hub is also participatory in
terms of learners. Accordingly, there will also be thematically appropriate workshops as
learning opportunities in which learners can actively participate.
There are several possibilities of participation. Please find further information here.
Venue
The event will take place in person in Hamburg. For a lecture in part A1, digital participation
may also be possible. Unfortunately, the ZAF cannot cover any costs for participation (in
particular travel expenses).
