The Future of Multilateralism (please register)
7 May 2018 @ 16:00 – 18:00
The Embassy of Austria and the Asser Institute would like to invite you to the panel discussion “The Future of Multilateralism – Beyond Current Distrust” on 7 May from 16.00 to 17.30.
Multilateralism, the international system built up since the end of WW II to ensure global peace and security, has been under attack for several years. Distrust and confrontation have (too) often replaced cooperation and partnership. It is therefore essential to strengthen effective multilateralism (organizations such as the UN, the OSCE, the ICC, OPCW etc) – whereby Austria and the Netherlands are among the main promoters – to counter this extremely worrying trend.
Introductory words: Ambassador Heidemaria Gürer, Austrian Ambassador to the Netherlands
Prof. Dr. Janne Nijman, Member of the Board and Academic Director of the Asser Institute
Ambassador Alexander Kmentt, Austrian Ambassador to the EU-Political and Security Committee
Peter van der Vliet, Director Multilateral Organizations and Human Rights, Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Cecilia Balteanu, Head of External Relations and State Cooperation Unit/Registry, International Criminal Court
Moderator: Dr. Christophe Paulussen, Senior Researcher at the Asser Institute
