Controversial targets: Does contemporary practice stretch the concept of military objectives under international humanitarian law?, Dr Agnieszka Jachec-Neale, the University of Exeter (UK), T.M.C. Asser Instituut, Amsterdam Center for International Law and The Netherlands Red Cross, The Hague, Netherlands (please register)

May 29 @ 19:00

In times of armed conflict, only military objectives may be targeted. Recent conflicts, such as the fight against ISIS, show an expansion of the type of objects that are targeted, as Western forces have attacked oil trucks and banks, for example, to bring down this armed group. Dr Agnieszka Jachec-Neale from the University of Exeter (UK) will discuss the concept of military objectives and contemporary targeting practice to analyse whether such objects constitute legitimate military targets.
