Young and Older people in the COVID-19 Pandemic – Connecting Ageism, Human Rights, and Global Health Governance

16:00 -17:00 Uhr

Taking the example of the COVID-19 pandemic, this panel discussion series raises the question whether young and older people can strengthen their participation and inclusion in global health governance. This question shall be addressed in a multi- and interdisciplinary dimension, encompassing International Law and Politics, and Gerontology, and in an intergenerational dimension, comprising young and older people.

Research shows increasingly that young and older people are experiencing distinct grievances in the COVID-19 pandemic. Ageism plays a crucial role in this regard. A central question of this panel is how this observation can be translated into a human rights issue and a project of inclusion in Global Health Governance. This panel wants to explore whether such a translation is indeed coherent, feasible, and meaningful.
