Referendarstation / Internship

The UNHCR Regional Representation for Southern Africa (Statelessness Unit) in Pretoria, South Africa, offers internship positions to qualified applicants. UNHCR interns should have completed or currently be enrolled in a post-graduate degree programme in law, human rights, political sciences or international relations at the university level at the time of application and during the internship.

Internships with UNHCR are for a period of up to six months and on a full-time basis. Demonstrated excellent writing and legal drafting skills in English are required. The positions are also suitable for articled legal clerks (Referendare).

UNHCR does not provide any remuneration to interns. All costs related with the internship must be borne by the intern or his/her sponsoring institutions or governments, including costs relating to travel, living, health insurance and accommodation. The interns will be required to sign a code of conduct as well as an internship agreement with UNHCR.

Interns will be under the supervision of the Senior Regional Protection Officer (Statelessness) and will be exposed to various protection-related activities of the UNHCR Regional Representation for Southern Africa.
